https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty
For gifts or Items purchased from 3D Portraits Ireland and sent to the UK (excluding Northern Ireland), you may not have to pay Customs Duty and VAT if the gift/item is valued at £39 or less. If the item purchase value exceeds £39, the recipient may be liable for VAT, and if it exceeds £135, they might pay customs duty.
Key Information for Gifts/Items (Ireland to GB):
- Value under £39: Generally no import VAT or duty.
- Value £39 – £135: Likely subject to UK VAT but not Customs Duty.
- Value £135 – £630: A flat rate of 2.5% customs duty may apply, plus VAT.
- Value over £630: Standard duty rates apply (depends on commodity code).
- Excise Goods: Tobacco, alcohol, and perfume are treated differently and are often subject to duty/tax regardless of value.
- Documentation: A CN22/CN23 customs declaration must be attached to the package stating it is a gift.
- Northern Ireland: Goods sent to NI from Ireland remain within the EU VAT area, so there are generally no import charges
- Customs Declaration: All items sent to GB (excluding Northern Ireland) require a CN23 form, detailing the content, value, and sender/recipient information.
- Gifts: Personal gifts under £39 (roughly €45) from one individual to another do not incur customs duty or VAT. Gifts over this value are liable for import VAT.
- Commercial Goods: Goods under £135 are generally exempt from customs duty but subject to VAT.
- High-Value Items: Goods over £135 may be subject to both customs duty and VAT.
- Documentation: Ensure you provide an accurate description of goods, weight, and value on the customs form.
- Prohibited/Restricted Items: Some goods, such as tobacco, alcohol, and certain food products, are subject to excise duty or special restrictions.
- Northern Ireland: Goods moving to Northern Ireland follow different rules due to the Windsor Framework, often maintaining a free-flow status from Ireland.
